Here we see an old project of old children’s illustrations which I did for a short story from the author Stygryt.

As the story was simple in plot and detail, in the drawing I wanted simplicity to be the principle guideline for the style. I also tried different techniques with which I made two versions; a digital version and a version using acrylic paint. In short, I played with the work process.

Hello once again. October passed without me posting any messages. This was due to my involvement in the creation of several projects. To compensate, this month I will post two messages. In the first, following the subject of the creative process of a project, I would like to recommend two blogs that develop this theme.

Its author, José Luis Zaragoza shows us, step by step, the creative process of his comic “En Peret que buscara a la mort.” A simple yet evocative tale with a synthetic and elegant drawing, of black and white masses comprised of precise brushstrokes. Furthermore, there are magnificent sketches and outlines. I hope we will soon be able to enjoy this edition.

“Dorian Gray BD”

http://corominasart.blogspot.com/

The artist and illustrator Corominas presents us his work, his projects and restlessness about the processes and approach to their creation, as if it were a gigantic studio/ warehouse where books, pictures and objects accumulate in apparent chaos. In “Corominas original –art” you have the option to purchase some of his work, of an agile and delicate style. If you would like to know more about his work, a book has been published by Gigamesh “el arte de Canción de hielo y fuego” from where the covers of this fantasy series have been taken.

1840

Hi again,

In this post I would like to invite you to the reading of “1840, the secret rose”. This is a webcomic full of adventure and mistery set in the Victorian London from the 40’. The graphic part of “The secret rose” was performed by me and the script writing in collaboration with the writer Mariko.

It is very stimulant to develop new painting techniques and to work with a new graphic language to recreate the different atmospheres and situations of the victorian ages. Also this work will let us investigate new possibilities of the new expression technologies and the new media.

I hope to go on developing new graphic resources during this proyect and improving it.

Enjoy the reading (Put here)

Un proyecto: Novolizer-Novoboy IV

Novolizer: El comic.

Novolizer: The comic.

Continuing with Novolizer, here you can see the last part of this job, the comic of the adventures of Novoboy, with the script by Stygryt.

Here is the original story-board for the comic. You can see the differences between the final versions of the pages, both in the dialogues and certain sequences. Following the client’s wishes, the chase was shortened, in order to give more space to the explanation of the asthmatic condition which our character suffered from as well as the drugs that alleviated the symptoms when a severe attack occurred. We mustn’t forget that this comic had a primarily commercial function.

I tried at every turn to create a spectacle on the pages, so that children would enjoy reading Novoboy’s adventure, just as they would by watching a film or playing a videogame.

Novolizer: the leaflet

I’m going to talk again about the development of the Novolizer project. This time, I’m going to show you the two parts which made up the small leaflet which was handed out to children at GP surgeries.   First was the leaflet containing information on the Novolizer inhaler with a central landscape illustration. The second part was a series of stickers of the Novolizer mascot (Novoboy), his friend  T.E.O, and other elements such as the spaceship. These stickers were to be stuck on the central landscape by the child, but it seems that the children liked these stickers so much that they asked their doctors for the stickers and placed them on their folders, pencil cases and school books.

Novolizer: T. E. O.

Novolizer: T. E. O.

Perhaps the thing that worked best in this project was the creation of T.E.O, who would be Novoboy’s companion in his adventures. Kidekom’s initial idea was for Novoboy to have some kind of robot who would help him in some tasks and would act as a GPS. My proposal for the design of T.E.O. was to move away from the typical robot, as I did not want T.E.O. to look like a robot.  It needed to be simple, likeable and brightly coloured (the reasoning behind the yellow colour which contrasts with Novoboy’s blue) and to have some relationship with the idea of the air. The first design hit the bullseye! The client loved the initial design and no further proposals were needed.
